12th May 2010 Celebrate International Nurses Day by sending us your stories of effective PHC nursing initiatives!

E-mail Print PDF

What supports and what inhibits nurses in leading and delivering effective primary health care?

Sally Kendall, Sophie Mogotlane and Ros Bryar have been commissioned by the International Centre for Human Resources in Nursing (www.ichrn.com) to produce a report in response to the above question. We are asking you for your experiences to incorporate into this report.

Nurses have a crucial part to play in the delivery of primary health care.  We are looking for examples of where nurses have made a difference in their communities and want to find out what the workforce factors were that helped in delivery of this PHC activity and what were the factors which restricted this development.

As a nurse please can you send us a successful/significant story of what has helped you and/or your team to develop ways of working which have developed or extended PHC. This could be either at a national or local level.

The questions below provide some prompts for your story, do not feel you have to use them all. We would rather receive your narrative than a series of responses.

When did this development take place and where?

What were the factors that enabled you to deliver that service effectively and successfully?

What was your part in making it successful?

What did your organisation do to make it successful?

Who else was involved?

How do you think the patient/community would describe the experience? What would have been important from their point of view?

What would have been important from your point of view?

What were the outcomes?

What were the difficulties you faced while delivering the service? Or what would need to be improved?

What were the workforce factors that helped or restricted this development?

If you have any reports or publications from this development we would be glad to receive these reports, pdfs or references.

Please send your stories by 28th May 2010 to:
